The maternal family of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Ghana, is appealing to the government, philanthropic organizations, and public spirited individuals for assistance.
According to the family, they are grappling with numerous challenges including distress, poverty, unemployment, lack of access to higher education, and the dilapidated state of the family house where the mortal remains of Madam Nyaniba, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s mother, were interred.
In an interview with Nzema Today TV at the Nyaniba House in Nkroful, located in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, Madam Bernice Akuba Frimpong, one of the granddaughters of Madam Alehyele (elder sister of Dr. Nkrumah’s mother), expressed her concerns.

Madam Frimpong lamented that the government had neglected the Nkrumah family house, leaving it in a state of disrepair, with poverty and hardship affecting the entire family. She added that many family members were unemployed, and schoolchildren in the family lacked scholarship opportunities.
She further highlighted the poor condition of the tomb of Nana Nyaniba, the grave of Dr. Nkrumah’s grandfather Egya Arhizi, and the entire compound. She stressed the need for urgent renovation, not only for the family’s dignity but also to preserve the site as a potential tourist attraction.
Madam Frimpong called on the government to prioritize the Nyaniba House as a heritage site of national importance for the benefit of future generations.
