September 13, 2026, Schoolchildren in both public and private schools in the Sekondi Constituency have received 300,000 exercise books from the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Hon. Lawyer Blay Nyamekeh Armah.
The initiative was introduced by the MP in 2023, when he was the NDC parliamentary candidate and continued in 2024 with each schoolchild receiving five books. The allocation increased to 20 exercise books per pupil in both 2025 and 2026.
Presenting the books at a brief but impressive ceremony at the Sekondi Methodist Park, Hon. Lawyer Blay Nyamekeh Armah said education remained the bedrock of development, hence his desire to support the delivery of quality education in the constituency.
He said that apart from the 230,000 free exercise books being distributed to children in public basic schools, children attending private schools outside the constituency had earlier received 70,000 free exercise books.
Hon. Lawyer Blay Nyamekeh Armah said the initiative was intended to ease the financial burden on parents and enable them to save money.
According to the MP, his commitment to the free exercise book initiative had led to the establishment of a printing press in the constituency to produce more books for schoolchildren.
He said the initiative was also intended to prove wrong those who doubted his ability to sustain the programme when he first announced it.
He used the occasion to appeal to parents to set aside partisan politics and to believe in the steps he had taken to foster a more holistic approach to education.
The MP also urged parents to monitor their children and encourage them to study harder to achieve academic success.
Hon. Lawyer Blay Nyamekeh Armah said that since assuming office as the first-time MP for Sekondi, measures had been taken to renovate dilapidated school buildings as part of efforts to give the education sector a major boost.
He thanked the teachers in the constituency for their dedicated efforts in nurturing talent and encouraged them to keep up their excellent work to improve the education system in the country.
