Nkroful Chief Urges President Mahama to Fulfill District Hospital Promise
The Chief of Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutua V, has reminded His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to fulfill his campaign promise to construct the Ellembelle District Hospital at Nkroful, the birthplace and original burial site of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
According to Nana Kwasi Kutua V, the Nkroful Traditional Council has already released 41 acres of land earmarked for the hospital project. He emphasized that the lack of a district hospital in Ellembelle poses serious challenges to the healthcare needs of residents.
Readers may recall that President Mahama, then the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), joined the chiefs and people of Nzema on September 21, 2024, to commemorate the 115th birthday of the African liberation icon, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region. During the celebration, he assured the people of his commitment to build a befitting district hospital in Nkroful.
In an interview with Nzema Today TV, Nana Kwasi Kutua V stated that with the influx of foreigners and people from other districts due to oil discoveries and mining activities, there is an urgent need for a district hospital to handle emergency cases.
He added that the St. Martin’s De Porres Hospital at Eikwe, built by the Roman Catholic Church to serve the health needs of the district, is now overstretched and unable to accommodate the increasing number of patients who visit daily.
Nana Kwasi Kutua V reaffirmed his readiness to release land for the hospital project, noting that establishing the facility at Nkroful would be a fitting tribute to the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He further highlighted that the hospital would not only enhance healthcare delivery but also create employment opportunities for local residents, including drivers, and stimulate the local economy.
The chief reiterated the importance of prioritizing the health needs of the people, stating, “A healthy people make a healthy nation.”
