March 05, 2026, Residents of Esiama woke up today to the unexpected news of the death of Mr. Ahmed Baako Alhassan, the Esiama Zone Commander of the Blue Water Guards in the Ellembelle District.
According to Mr. Stephen Afena, the Ellembelle District Coordinator of the Blue Water Guards, Mr. Ahmed Baako Alhassan had not been indisposed for even a day but only complained of pains in his heart yesterday and died shortly afterwards at around 19:30 GMT in the evening.
He has since been buried at Esiama in line with Islamic traditions.
Mr. Afena described the deceased as the most responsible and respectful guard during his line of duty.
He reiterated their collective resolve to live up to their core mandate of safeguarding water bodies and forest reserves from being polluted and degraded by illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.
The Ellembelle District Security Council (DISEC), led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Joseph Armah Agyekum, paid a visit to commiserate with the family and assured them of their support during this difficult moment.
Officials from the Minerals Commission in the Western Region, based in Sekondi-Takoradi, also visited Esiama to mourn with the family.
The late Mr. Ahmed Baako Alhassan is survived by two wives and four children.
