March 15 , 2026, The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) branch in the Ellembelle District has joined the nationwide industrial action to press home its demands for an enhanced salary structure and improved conditions of service.
Clients who visited the offices of the Ellembelle District Assembly had to return home without any services rendered, as staff members had joined the ongoing strike action and were not at post.
A visit to the offices of the Ellembelle District Assembly on day five of the strike revealed that the offices remained closed, while the premises looked deserted without a single soul in sight.
Speaking to the media in an interview, the Western Regional Secretary of CLOGSAG, Mr. Joseph Kwame Tawiah, said the Association’s two major demands an enhanced salary structure and improved conditions of service had been pending since 2019 during the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Responding to whether CLOGSAG had exhausted all channels of communication with the government before embarking on the strike, Mr. Tawiah said, “Our demands were part of the transition discussions that we worked on with the transition team before the current government assumed office.”
He added, “After it was captured by the transition team, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid-Abdul Hassan Pelpuo, confirmed during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament that once he assumed office, he would ensure that the needs of CLOGSAG were addressed.”
According to him, it was later confirmed by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, that the Ministry had begun implementing what CLOGSAG had proposed to the government.
Mr. Tawiah said the Association and the government had already signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)and were therefore waiting for the government to implement them.
He told the media that “until our grievances are addressed, the industrial action will continue unabated and members will not return to work.”
All efforts to reach the Minister for Finance to comment on the implementation of the MoUs proved futile, as his phone could not be reached as of the time of going to press.
