February 18, 2026, Nana Joseph Tetteh, the Acting Chief Fisherman in the Lower Axim Traditional Area, urged the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture to promptly commission the Landing Beach fishing project at Lower Axim. He emphasized that this initiative is vital for ensuring food security and supporting local fisheries businesses. Nana Tetteh pointed out that construction of the landing beach had been completed recently, yet it remains uncommissioned. He stressed the importance of the landing beach for the fisheries sector and the local economy, warning against it becoming a neglected project. During a visit to the fishing community of Apewosika in the Nzema-East Municipality, he shared these thoughts with Nzema Today. The government, through the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, has also built a modern Landing Beach Resort for local fishers at Apewosika. According to the Chief Fisherman, the landing beach is essential for the livelihoods of fishers, as their entire existence relies on fishing. He noted that the facility would allow fishers to store excess fish in cold storage, preventing waste and ensuring preservation. This, he added, would motivate fishers to continue going out to sea to catch fish and provide for the community.
