In recognition of selflessness, hard work, and the spirit of volunteerism, the Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe made a generous cash donation of GHc 11,000.00 to support Mr. Dauda Nuhu, also known as “Master Run,” a dedicated volunteer in road traffic control within the Kamgbunli community.
This donation highlights his unwavering commitment to managing traffic for 18 years at the Kamgbunli intersection on the Takoradi-Elubo highway. His efforts have been especially crucial in ensuring the safety of school children crossing the road to reach the other part of the town.
It is worth noting that Kamgbunli was the only Nzema community to benefit from an underpass when the international road was constructed by ABU Construction Company in the early 1980s. This underpass significantly improved movement, allowing people to cross the road safely to the other side of the town. However, when the Chinese Construction Company took over the project, the underpass was not maintained and was eventually destroyed, rendering it unusable for school children.
As a result, children were forced to cross the road to get to school, often leading to tragic accidents, with some being hit by speeding vehicles.
Mr. Shaibu Issaka, a representative of Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe, presented a cash donation on behalf of the group’s Vice-President, Mr. Osman Alhaji Nuhu, to Mr. Dauda Nuhu. The donation was made during the group’s annual conference held in Italy, which was chaired by the Nkosuohene of Kamgbunli, Alhaji Ali Nuhu Abeka. At the conference, various matters concerning the development of the town were discussed, and Mr. Dauda Nuhu’s dedication to traffic control was recognized.
The Vice-President emphasized that the donation was a result of the group’s recognition of Mr. Nuhu’s remarkable efforts and sacrifices over the years in ensuring the safety of the community, especially the school children. It was agreed that contributions were necessary to reward his hard work. He also urged the government to take swift action to prevent accidents at the intersection by installing a proper zebra crossing and traffic lights at the bus terminal.
Speaking to the media in Kamgbunli, Mr. Dauda Nuhu shared that he was inspired to start helping school children cross the road and manage traffic 18 years ago, as speeding vehicles were often hitting children trying to cross. He expressed his deep gratitude to Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe for the GHc 11,000 donation, which acknowledged his efforts. Mr. Nuhu also thanked the elders of Kamgbunli for their financial support over the years, despite his full dedication to the cause, which prevented him from working while supporting his family. He appealed to the government to provide him with traffic reflectors and formally employ him to continue his work.
Alhaji Sophiano, a retired District Director of Education for Nzema-East and a native of Kamgbunli, commended Mr. Dauda Nuhu for his selfless service in traffic control. He noted that the elders of the town had agreed to provide Mr. Nuhu with a monthly stipend for some time now. Alhaji Sophiano clarified that the town would refrain from taking matters into their own hands, such as installing speed bumps or zebra crossings, until the government takes on that responsibility. He also reiterated the appeal for traffic lights at the intersection and urged drivers to reduce their speed, especially as they approach the town, allowing pedestrians to cross safely.
He concluded by thanking Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe for their generous donation to honor Mr. Nuhu’s years of dedicated service and called on them to continue supporting the development of the community.
