June 19, 2025 – Drivers operating three-wheel vehicles, popularly known as prygea, in the Ellembelle District have refused to reduce lorry fares despite recent nationwide fare reductions announced by transport unions.
This defiant stance by the drivers has sparked disagreement and frustration among commuters.
According to some passengers, since other commercial drivers have complied with the fare reduction directive, prygeadrivers must also follow suit.
In separate interviews with Nzema Today TV News across various parts of Ellembelle, commuters appealed to the Ellembelle District Assembly and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to take action against drivers who have defied the government directive.

The commuters expressed concern that prygea operators have increasingly taken over the role of taxi drivers and should therefore be compelled to reduce their fares accordingly.
When contacted, most prygea drivers who spoke to Nzema Today TV News were unwilling to comply with the new fare structure announced by the government. Upon further questioning, no clear justification for their refusal was provided.
This continued charging of the old fares has led to frequent confrontations with passengers, particularly on routes such as Esiama to Nkroful, Asasetre, Azulenloanu, and Asanda.
