August 7, 2025- In a swift response to a national tragedy, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed two acting ministers to fill critical cabinet positions left vacant following the fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of the substantive Ministers for Defence and Environment, Science and Technology.
According to a statement issued today by the Presidency and signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President has asked Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the current Minister for Finance, to assume additional responsibility as Acting Minister for Defence.
Similarly, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has been appointed to act as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, effective immediately.
The tragic accident, which occurred on August 6, involved the late ministers who were en route to an official event in Obuasi. Details of the crash remain limited at this time, but the loss has sent shockwaves through the country, prompting immediate action from the Presidency to maintain continuity in government operations.
This temporary reshuffle places significant additional responsibilities on both acting ministers at a time when the nation is in mourning and facing critical policy challenges.
More updates will follow as investigations into the crash continue and funeral arrangements are announced.
