March 08, 2026 , As the international community marks International Women’s Day today, Obahyemaa Erza Ngonlomah, Queen Mother of the Axim Traditional Area, has paid glowing tribute to women for the critical role they play in nation-building.
She therefore called on leaders at the helm of affairs to support queen mothers in nurturing and encouraging the girl-child in order to improve access to education and their general well-being.
Obahyemaa Erza Ngonlomah made the call when she spoke to the media in an interview in Axim on the occasion of the International Women’s Day celebrations.
This year’s celebration, which is on the theme “Give to Gain,” emphasizes generosity, collaboration, and investing in women to foster better governance, economic growth, and a stronger future for all.
Obahyemaa Erza Ngonlomah noted that teenage pregnancy is on the ascendancy in the Nzema communities and called on parents and school authorities to sensitize the girl-child to focus more on their education and eschew immoral acts that may jeopardize their future.
The Queen Mother of Axim also raised serious concerns about the lifestyle of some schoolgirls, such as provocative dressing and the use of intemperate language.
Of further concern to Obahyemaa Erza Ngonlomah is the infestation of lice in the hair of many girls found on the streets in the Nzema communities.
According to her, these girls need to trim their hair and apply special cream to ward off lice.
She said that as a queen mother, she would lead the crusade to guide these girls to grow into responsible women and future mothers.
