August 13, 2025 – Nzema is back in the news, once again the focus is on concerning developments instead of progress. Nzema finds itself grappling with yet another crisis one driven by chieftaincy disputes that are robbing young people of critical opportunities for growth and advancement. The ongoing legal conflict between Nzema Kotoko FC and Basake Holy Stars FC regarding the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Sports Arena in Ampain goes beyond just football. It highlights the deep-seated unrest in Nzema, a community mired in ongoing disputes among its elders and leaders.
While two football clubs and their supporters battle in court over the ownership of a stadium, the real victims are the youth. When sports facilities are closed, taken over, or entangled in legal disputes, young people are driven away from healthy activities and into perilous situations. It’s a common issue that the Nzema youth are frequently unfairly labeled as “coconut thieves.” When the football stops, crime will increase, and these damaging stereotypes will only become more entrenched. Talking to some of the youth, their frustration was evident: “We are urging the courts to prioritize our interests. This isn’t just about a stadium; it’s about providing us with a space to dream, to grow, and to avoid crime,” one young man expressed, shaking his head in disappointment.
Another person added, “The case between Nzema Kotoko and Basake Holy Stars may involve influential figures, but the court must not forget about the powerless, like us. There was a palpable anger in their voices: ‘We are all watching. This time, we will not remain silent. If the leaders can’t set aside their differences, we will demand that they do.” Our future is not for sale, nor is it a bargaining chip in anyone’s chieftaincy conflict. The ball is in the court now, both literally and figuratively. We are waiting, we are watching, and we are prepared to raise our voices louder than ever before.”
Nzematoday TV will bring more information as the case develops, keeping the voice of the youth at the center of this story.
