At the 2025 OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains in Paris, Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, emerged as a leading voice for Africa’s role in shaping a more equitable and sustainable mineral economy.
In a high-level session dedicated to African perspectives, Minister Buah emphasized Ghana’s proactive approach to mineral governance. He detailed the country’s ongoing efforts to integrate value addition, transparency, and local beneficiation into its mining sector.
“We cannot continue to be mere exporters of raw materials,” he stated. “Ghana is committed to building a mining sector that creates long-term value for our people while meeting global expectations for responsible sourcing.”
He also highlighted Ghana’s participation in international due diligence frameworks and reiterated the country’s support for regional collaboration. According to Buah, sustainable development in the extractive sector must be underpinned by strong institutions, community engagement, and partnerships across borders.
His remarks positioned Ghana as a model for balancing economic growth with environmental and social responsibility in the global minerals trade.
