The Government of Ghana, through the Ghana National Gas Company Limited, is set to construct a second gas processing plant, popularly referred to as GPP2. This announcement was made by the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, at the Africa Energy Forum during the 2025 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC).
This significant development underscores the commitment of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to achieving energy self-sufficiency and positioning Ghana as a key player in the sub-Saharan African energy sector.
The first Ghana Gas Processing Plant (GPP1) was initiated, constructed, and commissioned under the leadership of the late President H.E. John Evans Atta Mills and President John Dramani Mahama. Although a roadmap for a second phase existed, the immediate past administration did not implement this critical infrastructure project.

Upon returning to office, President Mahama renewed his commitment to the construction of GPP2.
The establishment of GPP2 is expected to generate employment opportunities for young, skilled graduates and significantly enhance Ghana’s energy capacity. More importantly, it will support economic growth by ensuring a steady supply of affordable and reliable power for industrial use, domestic consumption, and export to neighboring countries.
