July 2, 2025 – The Ewe community in Ankobra, traditionally known as Sanwoma, has been displaced by severe flooding.
This follows a spillover of the sea, attributed to the absence of a sea defence project in the area. Properties and personal belongings have been destroyed as the situation continues to worsen.
The Assembly Member for the Ankobra Electoral Area, Mr. Patrick Assuah, spoke to Nzema Today TV News in an interview at Ankobra. He described the situation as dire, noting that most of the buildings have been submerged, causing fear and panic among residents.
He partially attributed the flooding to the sea defence project in Axim, as well as the ongoing torrential rains, and called for urgent action to construct a sea defence wall along the shores of Ankobra.
Mr. Assuah stated that the situation is making life unbearable for residents. He also expressed concern that the flooding could spread further into the community, potentially wreaking havoc on lives and property.
The Assembly Member, therefore, appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the government to respond swiftly and evacuate affected residents before the situation escalates beyond control.
