In a bold move to combat illegal mining, the Ellembelle District Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Agyekum, in collaboration with the District Police Command, has led an operation resulting in the arrest of two Chinese nationals and nine individuals posing as National Security operatives.
The suspects were apprehended on May 6, 2025, at Mile 3 near Teleku-Bokazo during a swoop by a special operations team set up by the DCE.
This development was detailed in a statement issued by the office of the District Chief Executive and cited by Nzematoday TV.

“We will not tolerate any form of illegal mining in Ellembelle,” the statement read. “Our district will be a hub for responsible mining and a no-go area for galamseyers.”
Hon. Joseph Agyekum added, “We will move at our own pace, but work assiduously to curb this eight-year menace without pressure or influence from any quarters.”
The operation underscores the district’s commitment to enforcing mining regulations and protecting the environment. Hon. Agyekum noted that the arrests send a strong message to those involved in illegal mining activities.
The suspects are expected to face prosecution for their alleged crimes. According to the statement, the District Assembly will continue to collaborate with security agencies to ensure strict compliance with mining laws.
