January 23, 2026, A surprising turn of events unfolded as Mr. Dominic Awortwe, also known as Kwame, from Anokyi in the Ellembelle District, issued a heartfelt apology to the Standing Committee of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council (ENTC). This apology was in response to the defamatory and slanderous remarks he had made about Mr. Frank Buah and Maaha Beach Resort. Just six weeks prior, Mr. Awortwe had made some harsh and inappropriate comments on social media regarding Mr. Frank Buah, Mahaa Beach Resort, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, related to land transactions and alleged financial issues.
Initially, the matter was taken to court, but the Magistrate referred it to Nana Bonya Kofi VI, the Chief of Basake and a member of the Standing Committee of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council, to seek an out-of-court resolution through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process. On January 22, 2026, the Standing Committee gathered at the Atuabo Palace to discuss the case. The family head of Mr. Dominic Awortwe expressed to the Traditional Council that the insubordination and misrepresentation by one family member did not represent the entire family’s stance and would not be supported by them.
The Abusuakpanyinli used the occasion to remind the youth to respect their elders and to seek clarification on issues that matter to them, instead of taking matters into their own hands and potentially damaging the reputations of respected figures in the community. The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council plans to hold another meeting on February 4, 2026, at the Atuabo Palace to finalize the settlement for submission to the Magistrate’s Court. In an interview with Nzema Today TV, Nana Bonya Kofi VI, Chief of Basake and leader of the Standing Committee of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council, explained that Mr. Dominic Awortwe was not initially involved in the land transaction but still found a way to receive royalties from Mr. Frank Buah. However, Mr. Buah decided to pay the royalties directly to the Abusuakpanyinli, which did not please Mr. Awortwe.

Mr. Frank Buah explained that while he remained committed to the payment, he preferred to deal directly with the Abusuakpanyinli. This decision angered Mr. Dominic Awortwe, who subsequently held a press conference and took to social media to hurl insults aimed at denigrating Mr. Buah’s image.
Mr. Awortwe was arrested and later fled to La Côte d’Ivoire. Upon his return to Ghana, he was re-arrested.
Recently, the Paramount Chief of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area, Awulae Blay IX, along with members of the Standing Committee, summoned Mr. Dominic Awortwe. Nana Bonya Kofi VI pointed out that Mr. Awortwe, who claims to be an Abusuakpanyinli at Aiyinasi, should have acted more responsibly instead of insulting someone like Mr. Frank Buah, who has made significant contributions to tourism and the local economy in the Ellembelle District. He mentioned that Mr. Awortwe could have faced jail time if not for the intervention of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council and Mr. Buah, who advocated for him. During the Standing Committee meeting on January 22, 2026, Mr. Awortwe appeared with his lawyer, who advised him to behave appropriately. He was fined three rams, one of which will be hung around his neck when the Committee meets again on February 4, along with three crates of Castle Bridge drinks. Nana Bonya Kofi VI emphasized that “this punishment serves as a warning to the youth who hide behind social media to insult innocent people.”
