Chairman Wontumi Released After Meeting Bail Conditions Amid EOCO Investigation

June 3, 2025 – Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following nearly a week of detention.
Chairman Wontumi’s release comes after he fulfilled strict bail conditions set in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged fraudulent activities, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
He was arrested on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, prompting widespread political attention and agitation, particularly from members of his party. NPP supporters, along with several Members of Parliament, staged demonstrations calling for his immediate release, describing the GH₵50 million bail requirement as excessive and politically driven.

To meet the bail demands, Wontumi was required to provide two sureties who could justify their financial means. Among those who stepped in to support him was Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Food and Agriculture and MP for Abetifi.
Although the bail conditions were satisfied by Friday, May 30, his release was delayed due to a legal motion filed to review the bail terms. That application was later withdrawn, clearing the way for his release on Monday, June 2.
Despite being granted bail, investigations into the case continue. The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) is reportedly preparing a separate docket as part of parallel inquiries, in addition to EOCO and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) probes.
Chairman Wontumi is expected to fully cooperate with the investigative process moving forward.

Nzematoday TV will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as new details emerge.
