Former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has testified in court regarding the theft of cash, jewelry, and personal belongings from her home.
Appearing before the High Court in Accra, Dapaah revealed that her stolen jewelry, valued at $95,000, had been accumulated over 35 years. She further disclosed that $210,000, which belonged to her late brother, Nana Akwasi Essan II (also known as Charles Dapaah), was also taken. This amount, she explained, was part of an $800,000 sum entrusted to her by her elder brother, Henry Osei Kwabena, following their mother’s instructions after Nana Essan II’s passing.
Additionally, Dapaah stated that the accused individuals allegedly stole $200,000 belonging to Dorcas Wiredua, a client and relative of her husband, £300,000 belonging to her husband, GH¢300,000 contributed for her late mother’s final funeral rites, and GH¢50,000 of her personal funds.
The case involves seven accused persons: Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, both former househelps, along with Benjamin Sowah, Malik Dauda, Christiana Achab, Job Pomary, and Yahaya Sumaila. They are facing multiple charges, including conspiracy, stealing, dishonestly receiving, and money laundering. All seven have pleaded not guilty and have been granted bail.
The trial continues as the court examines the evidence and testimonies.
