May 23, 2025 – In a charged and defiant speech that is gaining momentum across Africa and beyond, Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré has openly challenged France, demanding the repatriation of African resources and accountability for decades of colonial exploitation.
In a video message, Traoré warned of growing unrest across the continent, fueled by a generation no longer willing to tolerate historical injustice.
“We are no longer the Africa that bows. We are the Africa that remembers and demands accountability,” he stated.
A Voice for African Sovereignty
Traoré’s address extended beyond Burkina Faso, calling on African leaders and citizens to unite in reclaiming full political and economic independence. He denounced foreign interference particularly from former colonial powers as a lingering form of domination, and called for the dismantling of neocolonial structures that still shape Africa’s reality.
The president also stressed the need to return looted cultural artifacts and stolen wealth, presenting it not as a request, but as a rightful demand rooted in justice. His tone was both urgent and symbolic an appeal for the continent to rise with clarity, strength, and unity.
Pan-African Sentiment Rising
Traoré’s message echoes a broader Pan-African awakening now unfolding across the region. Countries such as Mali, Niger, and Guinea have voiced similar demands in recent months, reassessing their ties with France and asserting national sovereignty.
His remarks are being seen as a rallying cry for a new generation of Africans determined to take control of their destinies and rewrite the post-colonial narrative.
