Residents of Gwira-Dominase, located in the northern part of the Nzema-East Municipality, are appealing to the government to construct a modern and befitting market for the community.
According to them, the once-vibrant Dominase Market, which used to boost commercial activities among traders from neighboring districts such as Ellembelle and Tarkwa-Nsuaem, is now in a deplorable state.
A visit to the market revealed poor and dilapidated structures under which traders display their goods for business transactions.
Speaking to Nzema Today TV, Mr. Akannor Nyamekeh, a Unit Committee Member at Gwira-Dominase, stated that the Dominase Market had been one of the most vibrant and busiest markets on Saturdays for decades. However, the current state of the market is nothing to write home about.
He added that farming activities in the area had received a significant boost in the past, as the market served as a key outlet for selling produce to buyers from other districts.
Mr. Nyamekeh also expressed concern over the poor road network connecting the two districts, which he said is hindering the movement of traders and buyers to and from the market.
He emphasized the urgent need for the government to rehabilitate the Teleku-Bokazo to Simpa Junction stretch to help improve commercial activities in the Gwira area.
