The Nzema Line Street in Tarkwa was severely flooded following a downpour that lasted nearly two hours on Sunday, April 27, 2025. The flood caused significant damage to properties and disrupted daily activities in the area.
As a result, many shops and buildings, including the Golden Pride Savings and Loans Limited, were submerged. Motorists and pedestrians struggled to navigate through the waterlogged streets, leading to a major traffic jam.
Speaking to Nzema Today TV, the Assembly Member for Tarkwa, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Mensah, said this was the worst flooding the area had experienced in many years. He noted that the Nzema Line Street, which connects to the government hospital and the central market, had never seen such levels of inundation.
Hon. Mensah attributed the flooding to the construction of shallow drains across the road intersection leading down from the government hospital and the market. He also mentioned that the building responsible for obstructing water flow is intended to be a private hospital located near Golden Gate International School.

The Assembly Member stated that the Roads Engineer at the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly had been informed of the situation and expressed hope that urgent action would be taken.
The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Hon. Issah Taylor, also confirmed to Nzema Today TV that the new hospital project was contributing to the flooding due to the presence of narrow and shallow drains. He assured residents that steps would be taken to widen the drains to accommodate larger volumes of water during heavy rains.
