August 9, 2025 – Executives of the Nzema Manle Traditional Council have received news of the tragic passing of two distinguished Ministers of State and six others who lost their lives in a fatal helicopter crash.
The Council extended its sincerest condolences to His Excellency, the President of the Republic, the Government, Parliament, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana during this period of national mourning.

The Paramount Chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Area, Awulae Attibrukusu III, announced this at a news conference during a meeting of the Executive Council at Ampain in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, and Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, along with six others on board a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (COMSDEP), met their untimely deaths in the crash.

The Council said the Ministers served their country with distinction, dedication, and patriotism.
“Their passing is not only a great loss to their families and the government but also to the entire nation, which they served diligently with honour and integrity.”
“The Nzema Manle Council stands united with the people of Ghana in grief and prayer.”
The Council called on all citizens to join in offering solemn thoughts, prayers, and support to the bereaved families.
A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the fallen heroes.
