October 6, 2025, In fulfilment of the Resetting Ghana agenda of the second John Mahama administration, the Nzema East Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Office of the Member of Parliament (MP), has distributed assorted livelihood-empowerment items to a cross-section of persons with disabilities in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.
The items included 25 deep freezers, seven fufu machines, a hair dryer, roofing sheets, and cheques to support surgical procedures for some beneficiaries.
Presenting the items to beneficiaries selected from the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira area in Axim, Mr. Herbert Kuah-Dickson, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nzema East, said the government had increased the District Assemblies Common Fund to 30%, adding that the Assembly received GH¢188,000.00 as its Common Fund allocation for the first and second quarters of 2025.
He said the Assembly’s coverage spans the entire municipality, noting that a second batch of supplies is slated before December 2025. He advised those who did not receive items to be patient, as they will be covered in subsequent distributions.
Mr. Kuah-Dickson added that the Assembly would ensure persons with disabilities receive their fair share of government support. He urged beneficiaries not to sell the items but to use them as life-changing opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
Mr. Kofi Arko-Nokoe, MP for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, said the “national cake” would benefit all under President John Dramani Mahama. He appealed to the Assembly to visit persons with disabilities and compile a database to ensure equitable distribution.
Mr. Arko-Nokoe also urged youth to take advantage of Youth Employment Agency programmes, including recruitment for auxiliary police and fire service roles, and announced that about 500 young people have been recruited in the Nzema East Municipality this year. He added that military recruitment forms are now open and encouraged the youth to apply.
The MCE and the MP presented cheques to some beneficiaries with amputated limbs to support the provision of prosthetics, as well as roofing sheets to a beneficiary whose roof was ripped off during recent heavy rain.
