June 14, 2025 – As the Kwame Nkrumah Festival (Nkrumahfest) 2025 draws near, commuters and road users plying the Esiama, Nkroful,Tekeku–Bokazo stretch have appealed to the government to reshape the road leading to the birthplace and original burial site of Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The road network from Esiama to Nkroful through Aiyinasi has been awarded on contract to Memphis Metropolitan Construction Limited. However, several portions of the road have been left unattended.
Sections of the asphalt road have deteriorated due to poor construction work, leaving it muddy, dusty, and riddled with craters, resulting in depressions on the surface. The situation has worsened with the onset of the rains.
A visit to the stretch reveals deep cuts in the road, as the asphalt continues to peel away due to a lack of proper maintenance. Commuters are frequently forced to switch to a single lane because of the road’s deplorable condition, creating a constant risk of collisions.

Speaking to Nzema Today TV, a cross-section of road users expressed their anger and frustration over the deplorable state of the road, which they say severely affects their daily business activities.
They described that stretch of road as critical to the nation, citing its historical and economic significance from being associated with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to serving as a vital route for gold exploration, oil and gas, timber, and the transportation of cash and food crops.
The road users appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to repair the road before Nkrumahfest 2025 in September, as prominent individuals including His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama are expected to grace the occasion.
