July 3, 2025 – In a landmark case that has captured national attention, former spiritual leader turned evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence with hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court.
The conviction stems from a 2022 broadcast in which Agradaa claimed to possess the spiritual ability to multiply money for followers who brought cash offerings. Her widely publicized “money doubling” promise led dozens of worshippers to hand over large sums, expecting miraculous financial returns.
However, the claims turned out to be deceptive, leading to multiple reports of fraud. While six victims officially lodged complaints, investigators believe the actual number of people affected could exceed a thousand.
Presiding Judge Evelyn Asamoah delivered the sentence after months of legal proceedings and testimony. A mandatory pregnancy test conducted before sentencing confirmed that Agradaa was not expecting, allowing the court to enforce the full custodial term.
The ruling has stirred mixed reactions across the country. Supporters of the verdict see it as a necessary step toward curbing religious fraud, while others including her husband have expressed concern about the severity of the punishment.
Nana Agradaa’s transformation from a traditional priestess to a televangelist, and now to a convicted felon, marks a dramatic fall from influence. The case has reignited national conversations about fake prophets, spiritual manipulation, and the need for stricter regulation of religious practices in Ghana.
This verdict stands as a clear warning from the courts: spiritual deception no matter how it’s framed will face the full force of the law.
