June 3, 2025 – A lack of infrastructure, coupled with inadequate basic teaching and learning resources, continues to undermine the delivery of quality education at Domeabra Primary and Kindergarten School. The school is located in Domeabra, a predominantly peasant farming community near Awiebo-Basake in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
Since its establishment on September 27, 1988, Domeabra Primary and KG School has faced numerous challenges that hinder effective teaching and learning. Despite the community’s strong desire to provide a better educational environment for their children, the school remains in a deplorable state due to the limited financial means of the residents.

Currently, the school’s infrastructure is in a critical state of disrepair. According to Mr. Matthias Kwaw, Headteacher of Domeabra Primary and Kindergarten School, many of the classroom walls are broken with wide openings that allow for frequent distractions particularly affecting pupils from kindergarten to primary six. This, he said, significantly affects concentration and academic performance.
Additionally, the school’s roofing consists of old, rusted iron sheets with weakened nails. This causes severe leakages during rainfall, disrupting classes and often forcing temporary school closures. Mr. Kwaw also noted that the classroom floors and walls are not cemented, creating an unsafe and unhygienic learning environment.

The shortage of furniture is another major concern. Many pupils have no desks, which affects their ability to write properly and increases the chances of cheating during classwork and tests. Teachers also lack basic items such as chairs and tables, hampering their effectiveness, particularly during marking and lesson preparation.
The school’s office is equally affected. Doors and door frames have been badly damaged by termites and urgently need replacement to ensure the office is secure and functional.
Moreover, the teachers’ quarters are in extremely poor condition. The roofing is rusted and leaks heavily when it rains, while the uncemented mud walls are gradually eroding. These buildings urgently require plastering and general renovation to make them safe and livable.
Access to clean water is another major challenge. The only available water source is far from the school, resulting in delays as pupils are sent to fetch water in the mornings. There is a pressing need for a borehole or a pipe-borne water system within the school premises to serve both the school and the surrounding community.
Mr. Kwaw further appealed for the provision of solar lighting. He explained that installing solar panels in the teachers’ quarters and at least two classrooms would support night studies and significantly boost academic performance among pupils living in and around the community.
In light of these pressing needs, the Headteacher, teaching staff, and the Odikro of Domeabra are making a humble and respectful appeal to kind-hearted individuals, philanthropists, NGOs, and corporate organizations to support the development of Domeabra Primary and KG School.
Your support whether in kind or cash will go a long way toward transforming the school environment and shaping a brighter future for the children of Domeabra.
