January 19, 2026, The Nzema East Divisional Police Commander, ACP Isaac Kwasi Sorkpa, has commended the District Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Axim for its years of commitment and dedication to duty.
He therefore called on the Service to exhibit deeper commitment and discipline in the discharge of its duties in the year 2026.
ACP Sorkpa made these remarks while addressing officers of the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service (GPS) during a reception held in honour of three retirees of the GNFS at Axim in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.
The reception also coincided with the GNFS end-of-year get-together.
According to ACP Sorkpa, the reception further strengthened the cordial relationship between the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service. He stressed the need to deepen institutional collaboration between the GPS, GNFS, and other institutions under the national disaster management framework.
The Police Commander urged officers of the Fire Service to diligently discharge their mandate in public safety and disaster management and allow the public to judge their performance.
He reminded the officers that, “as professionals, you must exercise self-control, courtesy, and avoid confrontations with the public.” He noted that such conduct would support the leadership of the Service in improving its image within the Municipality.
ACP Sorkpa stated that the Ghana Police Service acknowledged the good work being done by the GNFS, particularly at accident scenes, but emphasized that expectations should be higher in 2026. “As the government resets, our work will also come into sharper focus,” he added.
He noted that the public expected nothing less than timely and efficient service delivery.
ACP Sorkpa commended the Fire Service Commander and saluted the retirees for rendering selfless and dedicated service to the GNFS for over 30 years.
He encouraged the Service to move into the New Year with renewed energy and determination, saying, “With a resolute mindset and collective effort, no matter the challenges we face, we will be able to deliver greater services to the people.”

DO II Peter Kojo Quayson, Nzema East Municipal Fire Commander, lauded the hard work of personnel of the Service in the past year.
He disclosed that the Municipality recorded 14 fire incidents in 2025, but expressed concern that four fire outbreaks had already been recorded in January 2026 alone.
DO II Quayson noted that this situation called for urgent action, especially during the harmattan season, to prevent further fire outbreaks.
For his part, DO II Kenneth Arthur, the Second-in-Command (2IC) and one of the retirees, speaking on behalf of the retirees, urged personnel of the Service to remain selfless, make sacrifices, and rededicate themselves to duty.
He said that the retirees had endured both challenges and successes in their years of service while working tirelessly to deliver quality service to the public, and encouraged the younger officers to emulate their example.
Mr. Robert Taylor, Nzema East Municipal Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), stated that the Company was ready to provide timely support to the GNFS in combating fire incidents.
He congratulated the retirees for their 30 years of dedicated service and appealed to young personnel of the Service to follow in their footsteps.
